DIRECTIONS

The journal is committed to publishing high-quality research results following professional-scientific community ethics, standards, and norms. Submitted manuscripts are published based on relevance, originality, readership expectations, and quality. Commercial or political gain does not influence editorial decisions. The present statement is based on the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Code of Ethics and Committee on Publication Ethics recommendations (COPE, https://publicationethics.org). All participants in the publication process (editorial board, journal editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers) are expected to respect the ethical rules of scientific research. In particular, the obligations of each actor are:

THE ROLE OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Editorial board members are recognized researchers in their field, academics with degrees in their field, and theoreticians and practitioners who have published in internationally-recognized journals. Their role is primarily advisory, but they also contribute their expertise to the peer review and publication process.

THE DUTIES OF EDITORS

Duties of the editors-in-chief

The editors-in-chief of the journal decide which of the submitted manuscripts will be published. The editors-in-chief will ensure that each manuscript is peer-reviewed by at least two experts in the field. The editors-in-chief decide when the manuscripts are to be published, the content of the issues, and whether to accept or reject them in accordance with the legislation and ethical standards in force.

Ensuring equal opportunities

Manuscript content is assessed based on the scientific results presented and evaluated in the manuscript and their relevance to the journal profile, regardless of the author’s origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or political views.

Source attribution and plagiarism

The editorial office checks manuscripts for plagiarism before peer review submission. Previously published articles are not considered for publication.

Confidentiality

The editors will not pass on any information about the manuscript submitted for publication, except to those involved in the publication process.

Disclosure and conflict of interest

The editors and members of the editorial board may not use unpublished material from the submitted manuscript for their own research without the written consent of the author. Information obtained during the review process will be treated confidentially and may not be used for personal gain.

Participation and cooperation in investigations

A panel of editorial board members chaired by the editorial board head will investigate all reported irregularities within 30. Journal editors also monitor ethical issues raised concerning submitted or published communications. The response will include contacting the author on ethics issues and communicating with the relevant institutions and various scientific bodies, as appropriate. If ethical concerns raised during the investigation are found to be justified, the journal will publish a correction, withdrawal of publication, or other comment.

REVIEWER DUTIES

Contributing to editorial decisions

Peer review is an essential element of scientific communication, which helps the editor-in-chief make decisions and, through dialogue with the author, raise the quality of the publication.

The evaluation procedure

Two peer reviewers assess all manuscripts to ensure quality. The review process is double anonymous (double-blind peer review). Two independent experts in the field peer review each manuscript and provide opinions to the authors. A third reviewer joins the process if the two first-round reviews make significantly conflicting recommendations. The following proposals may result from the peer review:

Publication of the manuscript

  • acceptance with minor improvements;
  • acceptance but significant revision and resubmission;
  • rejection.

Criteria for compliance

Compliance criteria for manuscripts published in the journal: compliance with formal requirements (presence of mandatory elements; relevance to the journal's theme; scientific and professional value (the title is consistent with manuscript content, manuscript consistency with the abstract and keywords, manuscript originality, use of relevant sources, article structure, chapter proportionality, overlap between chapters, precise formulation of the research objectives, clear description of the research area and methods, appropriateness of the methods chosen, adequacy of the data presented, presentation of the results, soundness of the conclusions, necessity, and quality of the illustrations and tables).

Confidentiality

The reviewers will keep the submitted manuscript confidential. They will not share any information about it except with the authorized editorial staff.

Objectivity

The evaluation must be objective. Criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers must present lucid opinions and provide arguments to support them.

Disclosure and conflict of interest

Reviewers may not use unpublished material from the submitted manuscript for their own research without the written consent of the author. Information obtained during the evaluation process is confidential and may not be used for personal gain. The reviewers may not evaluate a manuscript if they have any conflict of interest with the manuscript authors or with related companies or institutions arising from any competitive, collaborative, or other relationship.

THE AUTHOR'S OBLIGATIONS

Manuscript submission

Authors warrant that they have submitted unpublished original work not submitted to another scientific forum for publication. All manuscripts must include a justification of the relevance and topicality of the research, the aims and methods of the study, and the results obtained, with a precise statement of the data available. Manuscripts should include new, unpublished information and sufficient detail and references to allow reproducibility of the results. Critical writing (reviews, book reviews) should be accurate, unbiased, and comparative. Including false or knowingly inaccurate statements is considered unethical and unacceptable behavior.

Authenticity and plagiarism

Authors must warrant that manuscripts are original, properly cited, and referenced. The editorial board considers plagiarism and self-plagiarism unethical and unacceptable. Given the above, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to comply with copyright law. Any form of plagiarism will result in the rejection of the manuscript.

Prohibition of multiple or simultaneous communication

Multiple simultaneous submissions are unethical and unacceptable. Submitting a previously published communication is also prohibited. In special cases, the journal may accept the republication of certain manuscripts while respecting copyright. In all cases, the agreement of the author(s) concerned and of the forum that first published the communication is required. The exact bibliographic details of the original publication are also needed in the republication.

Manuscript authorship

Manuscript authors are recognized as such if they

  • have been a major contributor to the manuscript, whether in research design, its implementation, or data analysis;
  • participated in manuscript preparation or made a significant intellectual contribution to its preparation;
  • contributed to the drafting and revision of the final text. Those who did not contribute to the manuscript to the extent described above (e.g., technical assistance, editing assistance) should not be listed as authors; however, they may appear in the acknowledgments section.

Disclosure and conflict of interest

All authors must disclose any financial or other material conflict of interest that may affect research results and manuscript interpretation. Any dedicated financial resources used for the research must be disclosed.

Basic errors in published articles

Authors must report significant errors or inaccuracies in published papers to the journal’s editors or the publisher and cooperate with the editors-in-chief in retracting or correcting the error.

On average, the editorial pre-screening process takes 15 working days.
